Poetry has been called the agent for "Nourishing and expressing the soul of a nation". Short stories have been noted as reflecting the humanity inhabiting a nation. This collection of poetry and short stories may be said to express the multitudinous facets of both. As Ms. Døhlen says, "1 don't feel that I write poetry. It seems to write itself. The assembly of words flow together and find their way into the psyche of the individual that is receptive to abstract thought." Both poetry and stories in this collection span a number of years. The stories are set in various locations. Some reflect Norwegian nature and way of life. Other stories are set in Ethiopia, England, and America.
